 How Fast is your Internet?

Connection lagging test your internet speed

If you find that your internet is lagging and getting slower by the minute, you should run a speed test to insure your Internet service provider is giving you what you paid for. It’s important to have the proper speed for your Internet especially if you are a student doing work or running a small business.

In less than 30 seconds, check your internet speed. The speed test typically transfers fewer data than 40 MB, but on fast connections, it may transfer more.

You will establish a connection with Measurement Lab (M-Lab) in order to administer the exam, and they will use your IP address in accordance with their privacy statement. To encourage online research, M-Lab runs the exam and makes all test results available to the public. Your IP address and test results are included in the published material, but no other information about you as an internet user is.

Why you should check your internet speed

Regular speed testing enables you to identify performance trends, isolate devices that might be interfering with your wireless network, and make sure nobody is stealing your bandwidth.

How fast should my internet speed run?

3 to 8 Mbps is the basic service. 12 to 25 Mbps is a "medium service." Advanced Service = 25 Mbps or more. Megabits per second, or Mbps, is the unit of measurement for broadband speed.

What is a slow internet speed?

The basic service ranges from 3 to 8 Mbps. A "medium service" has a speed of 12 to 25 Mbps. 25 Mbps or more is considered an advanced service. Broadband speeds are measured in megabits per second or Mbps.
